Boreal IM has strengthened its asset management team with the appointment of Nicky Menten - formerly of Deloitte - as Vice President, while Xavier Aubrun has been promoted to Principal in its investments team.
Nicky brings over 10 years’ experience to the role and joins from Deloitte’s London Real Estate M&A team, where he managed over £600M of transactions spanning platform/asset fundraisings and other corporate finance engagements across the commercial and residential sectors.
Menten started his career as an accountant at PwC before working in the debt finance department at Hungerford Properties, a Vancouver based real estate investment, management and development company, focusing on the industrial and residential sectors.
Nicky’s primary focus will be on the development and implementation of Boreal’s asset and portfolio management strategies. He will also support across fund raising, debt, and acquisitions.
In the investments team, Xavier Aubrun has been promoted from Vice President to Principal. Xavier, who joined the business in 2022 after eight years at AEW, oversees Boreal’s investment and acquisition strategy in France, from Boreal’s office in Paris.
Xavier was one of the first hires at Boreal, which has over €1.3bn of logistics assets under management in the UK, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy and Germany, through its €3bn pan-European logistics joint venture with Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan.
In the Finance team, Rebecca Taylor has been promoted from Vice President to Principal. Rebecca joined Boreal in 2022 from Blackstone and has since built up the company’s corporate and portfolio financial reporting and operations.
In addition, Stephanie Mc Larnon has been hired as Vice President in the Finance team. A Chartered Accountant, she joins from British Land where she oversaw financial reporting for a portfolio of £13bn. Prior to that, she worked for property developer Ballymore.
Peter Bingel, CFO and Partner at Boreal IM, said: “Nicky brings a proven track record across the capital stack, and a diverse skill-set that will help drive existing asset performance as well as unlock future investment opportunities. We look forward to his contributions to Boreal, where we continue to focus on the performance of our portfolio through recruiting top talent.”
“Rebecca’s promotion reflects her accomplishments in laying the foundations for Boreal’s financial reporting and systems. With Stephanie’s appointment into her team, we continue to develop a rigorous financial operation with seasoned professionals.”
Nikos Koulouras, Partner at Boreal IM, said: “Xavier has been central to our continued growth in France, where our local presence is key to driving deal flow in a core geography for Boreal. He has been an important part of our development and his new responsibilities reflect this.”
Nicky Menten, Vice President, Asset Management, Boreal IM: “There is strong demand for boutique, mid-market managers in today’s market, with their dynamism, speed of execution and creativity helping to realise the sizeable opportunity that exists for institutional capital in private real estate.
“Boreal’s positioning, coupled with the experience of the partners and its ability to attract capital from one of the world’s largest pension funds, was an attractive proposition for me. I look forward to being exposed to different parts of the business and lending my expertise.”
